Marvin Harrison Jr. announces the number for his Cardinals jersey

It seems that the anticipation surrounding Marvin Harrison Jr.’s uniform number selection has come to an end — and he may have engaged in some negotiation to secure it.

Harrison Jr. took to his Instagram account to share a straightforward image of a red Cardinals jersey bearing his name and the number 18. While 18 was his college number, linebacker BJ Ojulari had worn the number last year, holding sentimental value from his LSU days. The details of how the number swap transpired remain undisclosed, but there have been instances in the past where such negotiations involved agreements like financing a player’s new outdoor space at his residence.

The rookies are set to arrive at the Dignity Health Training Center on Thursday for their inaugural session, kicking off with rookie minicamp on Friday. Consequently, all newcomers will be assigned their respective numbers. In a similar fashion, first-round pick Darius Robinson took to social media to reveal his choice of number, opting for No. 56.

The speculation surrounding Harrison’s number choice was always bound to draw attention. Initially, it seemed Ojulari might retain the number 18. However, Harrison Jr. encountered challenges in selecting a number, as his high school number 8 is retired by the Cardinals in honor of Hall of Famer Larry Wilson. Furthermore, his father’s NFL number 88 is also retired by the Cardinals in memory of tight end J.V. Cain, who tragically passed away after collapsing during a practice in 1979.
